Johan Reihnard located the Ban Raut (Rawat) in Darchula in 1970.
They are closely related to the Raute and some of them were still nomadic and living in the forest in huts and under
overhangs, working as migrant laborers for villagers and gathering tubers in the forest.
In 1994 the Author visited other Ban Raut that had settled to the south in Jogbura near the Indian border.
The Ban Raut are the same group called the Raji (Ban Raji) in the adjacent region of India.
